Who lives here

Meet the Neighbors

This all started with six chicks, seven and a half years ago. Then more chickens, and more chickens, then goats, then ducks, then sheep, with two sets of pigs named Bacon and Carnitas that have come and gone. On this homestead, every rooster is named Steve.

The Fence Study

We lost two of our goats to cougars. Now we're one of the homesteads helping Panthera test which fences keep livestock safe.

  • Three fence designs and a control, six months each.
  • First fence, March to September 2026: six feet high with screen. A success.
  • Running now: Second fence, five feet high and screenless, September 2026 to March 2027

Before the Homestead

Before the homestead, this land of fruit and honey was something we could only dream about, and we did. We lived in cities of all sizes, then broke free and built a home out of a converted 2002 school bus, traveled the eight western states, found a home for a while in Eastern Washington, and roosted at last on the Olympic Peninsula.
